The process of formation and development
This wetland was formed in 1960 after a 30km long dyke was built to treat Day river water. And accidentally turned this place into a wetland with an area of up to 35,000ha.
The mountains surrounding this area have been a haven for wildlife refugees. The most worth mentioning is a population with shown 40 individuals of white buttocks.
Studying the Van Long lagoon area has led scientists from one surprise to another, because the flora and fauna here are very typical for the two limestone ecosystems and wetlands of the Red River Delta. .
There are also a number of animal species typical of the karst and wetland ecosystems listed in Vietnam’s Red Book. Such as broad-leaved Turtles, gerberas, flower slices, horse bears, clouded leopards, chameleon flowers, etc.
In particular, there is also an insect nearly considered to be extinct, which is the Ca Cuong species of the swimming leg family. Where this species can survive must have a truly fresh water environment.
