Overview of  Hoang Lien Son National Park

With rich flora and fauna, many plants and species are in the red book of the world.
To climb Phanxipang, visitors need to walk through the forest to enjoy this wild and beautiful nature.

To get here, visitors must cross O Quy Ho pass, about 20km from Sapa. Above 1000 – 2000m above sea level, the area is foggy all year round and ice appears on the top.

Diversity of animals and plants

The core zone is located in the center of San Sa Ho, Lao Chai and Ta Van communes. There are thousands of different species including 66 species listed in the Red Book of Vietnam.  And 11 species in the brink of genocide.

The park owns three species of extremely rare and precious cypress species, distributed in the limestone mountains of Ban Ho commune, Sa Pa district.

Hoang Lien spruce (cold sam) grows at an altitude of 2,700m, trees from 18-20m high, with a root diameter of 50–80 cm.

Distributed in the core zone of the national park with an area of ​​about 400-500 ha. These three rare plants are now being recommended by the International Fund for Nature Protection (WWF).

About animals, in Hoang Lien National Park there are 66 species of mammals including 16 species listed in the Vietnam Red Book.

In addition to familiar species such as flying squirrels, wild cats, serow, black gibbons, there are endangered species such as pure black gibbon, hornbill, cymbid, langur langur.

Bird has 347 species including rare species such as spotted eagle, red crested hemorrhoids, yellow beaked bird; amphibians have 41 species; reptiles with 61 species.

The park preserves the genetic resources of half of the amphibian species found in Vietnam, including the rare newly discovered thorn frog.
