Highligh of Cu Chi Tunnel overview

During the anti-American resistance war of the Vietnamese nation, Cu Chi Tunnels was an underground defense system in Cu Chi district. 70km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City, dug by the Viet Minh resistance forces and the liberation front of South Vietnam during the Indochina War and the Vietnam War.

With the underground system running zigzag in the ground including many clinics, accommodation, kitchen, storage, working rooms, ventilation systems, etc.
With a length of about 250km, many vents in the bushes make it easier to live and fight in the ground.
Dubbed the land of steel, in the 1968 Mau Than campaign, the Southern liberation troops came from this tunnel to attack Saigon.

History begin

Many people believe that Cu Chi Tunnels are a common term for different tunnel systems. Scattered on 2 communes Tan Phu Trung and Phuoc Vinh An. At first just short tunnels, the structure is simple to hide, hide documents and weapons.
There are also many other opinions that the tunneling was done by people in the area in the early 1948s.

To avoid the French military sweep, many residents of the area dug themselves and provided shelter for the Viet Minh Army.
Each village has its own tunnel, and is unintentionally connected and later grows bigger and more complex.
Most underground tunnels must be mentioned in the northern communes of Cu Chi, the tunnel system has been improved and become a place to hide forces and support each other.

In the years 1961 to 1965 completed the live axis axis, continuous between the hamlets, communes and coastal areas.
Above the ground, there is a dense transportation system connected with the tunnel, divided into many alleys and many floors.
In addition to the above there are battle mounds, minefields and nail holes, bunkers to support the safety of the tunnel and during the resistance.

The main structure

Geologically stable with clay and laterite does not cause subsidence, can withstand large destructive power of American blockbusters.
The air circulating around the tunnel is drawn through more openings. Special thing is to be able to isolate when needed.

The tunnel is from 3 to 8 meters deep, only 1 person hunched high. There are many amenities in this area like an underground well that serves many people.
From the backbone system radiate many branches and direct to the mouth of the Saigon River. The first floor is located about 3m away from the ground, able to resist bullets and the weight of tanks and armored vehicles.

Defense system

Arrangement is intricate, many vents and nooks and crannies, so even if there is fairness of gas or pumping water into the underground, it is only damaged on the outside. US troops have taken many measures to detect the entrance but also not affected

Initially the US military used professional dogs, but then they placed the soap bar placed in front of the door to distract.

There are times when the US military finds all the reconnaissance troops to lay down mines. In major battles, both sides suffered losses and shallow sections collapsed. But this system is still standing, and is still in practice today.

Relic
Under the management of the Ho Chi Minh City Military Command, the Management Board should have 250km of protected roads still well protected.
